What to do When Your Home Floods

When your home floods from storm damage, an overflowing toilet, a broken pipe, or a busted water heater the very first thing you should do is call a water extraction company. Water extraction companies perform the first step of removing the water with specialized vacuums.

Water Mitigation – The Dry-Out ProcessMoisture meter used to detect trapped water under ceramic tile

Once the water has been extracted, Baker Roofing & Construction uses moisture detectors and infrared cameras to identify the areas of the home that are holding high levels of moisture that can cause mold to develop. After identifying all the areas, we then prepare a course of action to determine what material is damaged and should be removed and discarded.

Mold Control from Water Damage

After the demolition is completed of all the water-damaged materials, we bring in air movers and dehumidifiers to return the home to the proper humidity level. This dry-out process will ensure that harmful mold does not have a good environment to promote growth. We also will spray the affected areas with an anti-microbial to effectively kill any existing mold and prevent future growth.

The Rebuild Process After Water Damage Occurs

The rebuilding process after water damage occurs normally begins by corresponding with the insurance company. We work directly with your insurance company to make sure that all the water-damaged materials are being replaced. We spend countless hours pouring over the details of the insurance claim and corresponding with the insurance adjuster to get your home rebuilt to the pre-event condition.

Many homeowners choose to update their homes while we are doing the rebuild. It is the perfect time to remodel your home since we are already performing work and you can use the insurance money to cover a portion of the remodel. For example, if your carpet is damaged we can take the insurance money allowed for carpet replacement and allot it to new hardwood floors. You would only be responsible for the cost above the amount the insurance company paid.

Remodeling during the rebuild phase is a sure way to save you thousands of dollars while getting the home you always wanted. If you are interested in remodeling your home or just making some updates, let us know before we begin the rebuild phase. By doing this we can plan and make the best use of the insurance funds to build your home back better than before. We also provide financing for customers who would like to update their homes but may not have the cash immediately available.
