Dallas Charities to Know this Christmas
Christmas is a time for family, giving, and community. This is why Baker Roofing & Construction would like to share some of our favorite Dallas Charities this Christmas. The community has always been important to us at the Baker Roofing team. Many of our employees volunteer their personal time every year to several charities here in Dallas – Fort Worth.
SPCA of Texas
The SPCA has long been an essential service for the Dallas community by sheltering, feeding, and arranging adoption homes for thousands of pets for nearly 30 years. Every year SPCA sets of the Home for the Holidays in North Park Mall. You can find the most adorable companions that will make Christmas special for any home. However, if you’re not ready for the commitment of a pet, you can still purchase products that will help to fund SPCA’s goal to give every pet a kind and loving home.
North Texas Food Bank
While not a strictly Dallas charity, North Texas Food Bank supplies millions of meals every year to North Texans facing hunger in over 13 North Texas counties. Many of these meals go to feed children and senior citizens that, without the generosity of the community, would go hungry. Six nutritious meals can be prepared from just a $1 donation; however, food and time donations are always welcomed.
The Stewpot
This incredible Dallas charity, The Stewpot, has given so much to the often-forgotten homeless population. They have not only been the sole provider of 1,000 meals a day, 7 days a week since 2008 for The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center but they also provide casework assistance and enrichment programs to the homeless including Family Stabilization programs for at-risk children and their families. These programs help to re-establish these citizens back into society and address the issues that lead them to being homeless. Approximately 16% of the single adult homeless population suffers from severe mental illness and 40% of male homeless men are veterans, while a survey of 24 American cities found that 25% of the homeless population left their homes due to domestic violence. Additionally, in the same study, as high as 25% of the homeless population were actually employed but can not make enough money to provide shelter for themselves and their families.
The Salvation Army
Our favorite bell-ringing Santas are collecting donations for more than 45,000 children this year. You can always adopt an angel from any of The Salvation Army’s North Texas Area Angel Trees but personal time donations are also very welcomed and very much needed at this time of year to provide Christmas for thousands of children. Even throwing a little change in the collection will make a difference in a child’s life.
Bryan’s House
Bryan’s House was initially founded to help HIV/AIDS care to children suffering from the infection. In 1985, Bryan Allen passed away at 8 months old having been born with HIV/AIDS because his mother had contracted AIDS from a blood transfusion. Since then, Bryan’s House has also helped thousands of children with special medical needs such as cerebral palsy, autism, and Down Syndrome. They provide medically managed care, respite care, and social services to the children and their families.
‘Tis the Season to Give
While any of these aforementioned Dallas charities would benefit from your donations and voluntary work, there are still hundreds of other ways for you to give this holiday season. Many families and individuals will have to face harsh realities this year that many of us will never know, so let’s give and give and give till our hearts overflow and inspire the people and communities around us to give as well. Remember, everything is bigger in Texas, and so should be our hearts. Happy Holidays Y’all from Baker Roofing & Construction.
