3 Tips to Get Your Roof Ready for Summer
Summer is right around the corner…
Is your beach body ready? Yeah… neither are ours. While we can’t help you fit into your swimsuit we can help you at least help you get your roof summer ready. Here are 3 tips to get your roof ready for summer.
Inspect your Gutters
You may be wondering how inspecting the gutters will tell you anything about your roof, well just keep reading and find out. You can tell a few different things about your roof by looking at your gutters. First, inspect your gutters for dents and “small dings”. If there are several of these dents on your gutters, then it is likely to be damaged from hail. Typically, gutters are constructed from aluminum, which is obviously much harder than asphalt shingles, so, if your gutters are showing dents then that is an indicator that your roof may also have some hail damage. Additionally, if you find an excessive amount of granules in your gutters this is called granule loss. Granule loss could mean a few different things but for sure it means your roof should be further inspected to ensure your roofing shingles are still providing the appropriate protection.
Clean your roof and gutters
The longevity of your roof depends on several factors however, by maintaining your roof you will be able to control some of the factors. First, completely remove any debris that is found on the roof such as leaves and twigs. Second, clean any signs of algae present on the roof. Algae is not only unsightly; it also is slowly destroying your roof. Algae is alive and it feeds off the lime that is in your shingles. If algae are an issue on your roof, it is imperative to maintain its level. Finally, clean your gutters. If your gutters are not doing their job properly, it can cause water damming and create damages to your decking and fascia.
